Gold & Silver Value

The value of gold or silver depends on weight, purity, and the current spot price. Here's how to estimate it.

Weight and Purity

Weight is usually measured in grams or troy ounces (1 troy oz ≈ 31.1 grams). Purity for gold is expressed in karats: 24K = 100% pure, 18K = 75%, 14K ≈ 58.3%, 10K ≈ 41.7%. Silver is often .999 (pure) or .925 (sterling).

Spot Price

The spot price is the market price for a troy ounce of pure metal. Dealers add premiums for fabrication, demand, and profit. Your actual buy/sell price will differ from spot.

📊 Use our Gold & Silver Value Calculator to estimate value based on weight, purity, and live spot prices.

Formula

Value = (spot price per gram) × purity_factor × weight_in_grams. For gold, purity_factor = karats/24 (e.g. 18K = 0.75).

Why Use a Calculator?

Jewelry and scrap gold often have mixed purities. A 10-gram 18K chain contains 7.5 grams of pure gold. Our calculator uses live spot prices, so you get an up-to-date estimate before visiting a buyer or pawn shop. Dealers pay below spot — the calculator gives you a reference, not a guaranteed offer.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is 92.5% pure (.925). If our calculator shows .999 (pure silver), multiply the result by 0.925 for sterling. Our tool supports both gold and silver with appropriate purity options.
